People and pets at the pickup
On a pet-food collection day at Narre Warren, Dawn, Linda Ann, Irene and Patricia welcomed visitors arriving for supplies. Fourteen-year-old Sasha came along, and Jackeroo received a new toy. Petbarn Foundation supported the food shared with the people collecting that day.
Faye and Linda Ann have also helped share food and Schmackos with local pets and families. Among the visitors were a Chihuahua wearing a bow tie and a black-and-white cat resting on a blanket Faye had made. Handmade items and donated food can reach the same households through the hub.

Making donated goods useful
After visiting a Fuzz Yard sale, Irene asked Margaret what happened to excess and discontinued stock, and whether the business might be able to donate some items. Ashley followed up, and Irene collected a donation of assorted dog collars.
We also offered FuzzYard dog coats, mainly sizes 4 to 7, along with dry dog food. Rescue and outreach organisations could tell us the sizes and quantities they needed and arrange a collection. A conversation about surplus stock can lead to a donation of items a rescue group can use.

Coordinating across Hubs
During one cat-food allocation, Narre Warren had eight pallets of cat food and 136 open request emails. Maria was contacting rescues that had not been supplied recently first. Our Sale hub had received 24 pallets and had fewer outstanding cat-food requests.
For people prepared to travel further, Maria offered to transfer their request to Sale so they could collect there instead. Two days later, she confirmed that Sale’s food donations had been allocated. The teams could offer another collection point when the available food and the number of requests differed between hubs.

Rescue partners collecting locally
Independent rescuer Taasha, Pyrenees Animal Rescue, Out of the Woods Rescue and One at a Time Pet Rescue were among the people and groups collecting food through Narre Warren.
We provide food so rescuers can keep their resources available for the other demands of animal care, including veterinary treatment, safe housing and fencing. Our volunteers organise the supplies and collections; the rescuers take the food back to the animals they look after.

Opening the Narre Warren Hub
When our Narre Warren hub opened, Maria, Linda, Irene and Cathrine were busy with collections in its first week. Urban Cat Collective, Working Dogs Rescue, Strong Hearts Barn Cat Rescue and One at a Time Pet Rescue were among the groups collecting food.
Michelle from One at a Time Pet Rescue thanked the team for the donation and planned to distribute it to carers that week. From the beginning, donated supplies were moving through the hub to the people providing daily care.
