Glencoe and the Limestone Coast, South Australia

Meet Rebecca and the Glencoe Hub team

Rebecca and our Glencoe hub help get food, bedding and other useful supplies to animal carers and community organisations on the Limestone Coast. The work includes local household support, community food events and arranging transport into the region.

A large donation needs a way to get here. A smaller one still needs to reach someone who can use it. Our local connections help bring those steps together.

Beds for a local family’s dogs

Bedding is one of the useful things we can share alongside food. Rebecca helped a local older couple with a soft dog bed and a raised bed for their dogs.

The family later sent Rebecca a photograph of their granddaughter relaxing with the dogs.

Pet food at Millicent Shares a Plate

Rebecca and her family set up at Millicent Shares a Plate on behalf of ARC to hand out dog and cat food to local community members.

The stall was planned around small, manageable bags that people could carry home. Wet and dry dog food, dry cat food, treats and other small items were on the list, with a dog-food or cat-food pack available while the limited supplies lasted.

It brought pet food into a community meal setting, where people were already coming together. Preparing the packs and setting up a table were the steps between a bulk donation and food someone could take home for their pet.

Moving food into the region

Getting donated food to the Limestone Coast also means finding a way to transport it. For one load, Rebecca asked supporters to help raise $500 towards moving a load of essential food from Melbourne to Glencoe for local rescuers and outreach organisations.

That appeal focused on one of the costs behind the hub’s work: carrying a donation from where it is available to the region where people need it. Financial support can help with that part of the journey, alongside the businesses donating goods and the people preparing collections.
