Food for rescue animals and local carers
We supplied Blue Mountains & Districts Cat Welfare with cat food and other necessities through our Leichhardt team. For the rescue, having food covered meant more money could go towards vet bills. Its volunteers thanked ARC and the suppliers whose donations made the collection possible.
Individual carers collect through the hub too. Kate thanked Sarah and the Leichhardt team for food for the stray cats she cares for. These handovers sit alongside the larger collections by rescue groups and community organisations: different amounts of food, going to people with animals to feed.

An open day for many kinds of carers
At one of our Leichhardt open days, more than 90 wildlife and companion animal carers came through the hub. Our team shared about a shed and a half of supplies, making room for more donations as people took useful goods back to the animals in their care.
The supplies included food, toys, treats, harnesses and coats, along with crates, carriers, blankets, medical and craft items. Carers could also collect products for birds, fish, reptiles and rabbits. Preparing a day like that means sorting different donations so visitors can find things they can use.
Cat Protection Society NSW, Sydney Dogs and Cats Home, RSPCA NSW and Inner City Strays were among the organisations thanked for donated items. Chance Rescue also passed on its thanks after the event. The work involved people donating, setting up, helping on the day and carrying supplies home.
A van, a collection and the next delivery
When we replaced our ageing Sydney van, Bumblebee, the team gave its replacement the working nickname BeeToo. It was chosen for the job: fully loaded, it can carry a pallet and a half of dog food for outreach events and donation collections.
George and Kylee helped find the van, and Jason at Hot Spot Autos in Auburn helped with pricing and service. A useful vehicle makes it possible to collect a donation and take supplies to an event, rather than relying on what will fit in a car boot.
Supporters help with the everyday costs as well as the goods. One ARC Return and Earn fundraiser raised $740 from more than 7,000 containers, with the money intended to help with transport and storage. We also work with community grocery pantries to help people keep feeding their pets.
