Meet Trish and the Tasmania Hub team

Trish and our Tasmania volunteers bring donated food, care supplies and handmade items together for people looking after animals. From our Hobart base, we work with rescuers, wildlife carers and community organisations around the state.

There are makers sewing pouches, people giving fabric, volunteers organising supplies and carers putting them to use. Food collections sit alongside that craft work, with useful donations moving between local supporters and the people who need them.

Pouches made for wildlife care

Our Tasmania craft volunteers made and supplied pouches for Craig, a Hobart wildlife rehabilitator caring for rescued possums and wallabies. Craig thanked ARC and the makers for the help.

Rachel also thanked the Tasmania craft volunteers and donors for pouches, bags and pods for wildlife carers. Mini was already enjoying a new pouch. Different items reach different carers, with the makers’ work becoming part of the daily care around an animal.

Sewing and delivery meet in one place

Trish delivered wildlife pouches and liners to Tassie Wild Orphans at an Introduction to Mammals workshop. Bringing the supplies to a place where carers were already gathering helped connect the finished items with the people using them.

The carers explained the difference the items make: pouches give orphaned wildlife somewhere cosy to rest, while liners help rehabilitators keep up with washing. They thanked the people who sew, donate fabric, organise and deliver. Each is a practical part of getting an item from a maker to a carer.

Food helps a wildlife carer manage costs

We supplied dog food to Wild little lives tassie to help the carer manage costs while caring for wildlife. The donation fed the carer’s companion animals, including a dog named Crumb, alongside the wildlife work.

Supplies also reached Illoura Animal Sanctuary through Trish and our Hobart team. A sanctuary collection and food for a wildlife carer’s dogs are different kinds of help, each based on what the people caring for animals can use.

Food as part of community support

Trish has also helped Tasmanian Animal Rescue and Sanctuary and St Vincent de Paul Society Tasmania with donated supplies. The food for Vinnies was intended to be repacked into smaller amounts for clients, including people experiencing homelessness with pets and other pet owners needing help.

Working with a community organisation gave us a way to contribute pet food alongside support people were already seeking. It is another part of the hub’s history, alongside its work with rescue groups and wildlife carers.
