🟡ARC and Petbarn Foundation COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM 📍Wilcannia NSW - 1000kms ( 12hour drive) North West of Sydney. FEATURE STORY • RSPCA NSW Indigenous Community Companion Animal Health Program (ICCAHP) 🐕🤝🐈⬛ From: Emma DavidsonOutreach and Education Manager RSPCA NSW “Hello Sarah and team,Thank you for all the food to take to 📍Wilcannia (9-11 April). It was a great success and we cleared a very full ute. Some photos are attached. Also some stats in case helpful for your reporting of support of the program:⚫️The team examined a total 108 dogs, owned by 58 people from 46 households⚫️Generally healthy with the majority of the dogs with a body condition score of 4 or 5 (76 % of the dogs seen).⚫️Ticks found on 25 % of dogs which equated to 33 dogs presenting with a tick score of 1 or 2.⚫️100 Seresto collars for tick prevention were distributed to dogs. Young puppies were provided with either Frontline spray if under 6-8 weeks or Simparica Trio.⚫️108 dogs (and 19 cats) were provided with vet checks, vaccinations, parasite prevention, microchips and pet food.⚫️Of these, 49 dogs and 16 cats were desexed during the program, with a further 22 dogs presenting as already desexed.RSPCA NSW are just one of the groups that 👷 Sarah and the team at 🟡ARC Leichhardt Hub are helping with pet food and flea, tick and worm prevention medication for the communities they are assisting WHAT WE DOARC Animal Rescue Cooperative are helping people facing financial stress to feed their pets. 🐕Bones...named after his appearance...😢 - is now being supported by 🟡ARC and 🟡Petbarn Foundation 🐕🤝🐈⬛ REGIONAL AND RURAL SUPPORT PROGRAM FOR ANIMALS Today we have a special feature story from Volunteer 👷♂️Jay at our 🟡ARC Southern Highlands Hub located at Nattai Rescue:“Bones, named after his appearance was found by chance on a 10,000 acre property along the Black Stump Highway between Dunnedo and Coolah. Its hard to speculate what circumstances lead him to be wandering the countryside. Landowner Krissi said she saw something at a fair distance moving through the tall grass that caught her attention. The kangaroos nearby confirmed something was amiss as they propped upright on their back legs to see the new threat that was moving towards them from the shade of the tree. Looking up at the sun, it was hot, perhaps high 30's with a lot of ground heat. Initially, Krissi thought it could be a brazen wild pig looking for food or just relocating in search of water. She walked carefully through the high grass fearing the worse, that she would find herself face on with an eastern brown snake. However, in closer proximity, their eyes locked on each other. He gave a fearful growl, and Krissi a warm hello - to her new found Kelpie friend she later named Bones. Krissi said, “dogs do it tough out here, its amazing he avoided most other landholders, as a wild dog is a dead dog. Yes, with stock around a farmer will shoot any dog that he doesn't recognise. Its too big a risk for their livelihood. All too often the case, a hunting dog will get lost or abandoned and left to their own devices.”For the past few weeks, Bones has been a part of Krissi's family and with much thanks to ARC, Bones will get the much needed support to get him to the correct weight for his breed.I will be calling in on Krissi and Bones next month for a follow up. It was a 3 hour trip each way to the hub... we made sure the trip was worthwhile!🦘Wildcare Queanbeyan, supporting local wildlife carers - Why give pet food to Wildlife carers? Nearly every Wildlife carer has other animals.
